The bedroom chronicles part 1

Before I begin the bedroom chronicles, I have to share two things with you.

For anyone who was interested in the dough bowls last round...but was not able to get one (they sell out really fast) I was lucky to snag another 6. My vendor called yesterday that he was unloading the last of a container from Belgium  and they just opened up a large armoire to see 6 bowls hiding in there! So he offered them to me, they are approx.  20-27' and as are all the bowls from this vendor, they are GORGEOUS! So email me here if you want one (I feel like these are kids that I am putting up for adoption every time I get some in)

Second, one of the many perks of blogging is the exchange of information and vast resources that come our way. Do you believe in miracles? I do, and was completely touched by this story, of a young girl affectionately nicknamed "Soup". Just so happens Soup is the cousin of one of the dearest people in all of blogland, Suzanne from Privet and Holly. It is also happens that she has leukemia.

Soup has one big wish, to meet up with Carrie Underwood....want to help that become  a reality? Watch this video and pass it on! She is determined that somewhere along the way Carrie may see it. Such a beautiful girl and that smile could light up a room. Say a prayer for Soup, I know I am. Thank you Suzanne!  You must watch this.....and if you want to see Suzanne's amazingly beautiful post click here.

Is she the cutest thing ever??? Please pass this on......once you see this you can't forget it! Rooting for you Soup!

Hi there, well I alluded to the fact last week that my bedroom is finally getting the attention its long deserved. This really should have been done first, but the discontinuing of that darn wallpaper threw me into a tizzy and the bedroom got put on the back burner. Now almost 9 months later, I am ready to put the pedal  to the  metal on this room aka my private sanctuary ! I think few rooms are as important as a bedroom. After all you spend nearly half your day there.

At the end of a long and hard day, is there anything better than walking into your bedroom, closing the door (and eyes) and just breathing in the peace and serenity. I don't think so...I live for those moments! A lot of people ask me about how I go about starting a room. I generally advise that in a perfect world...its best to start from the ground up, if you are able. OR if there is something that has struck your fancy, whether it be a wallpaper, a lamp, a decorative object, a pillow, often times those things can inspire an entire room to come together.

So in my case, since the wallpaper that once inspired me to do this room soup to nuts did not work out....I am starting with the carpet. After a battle of wood floors vs. carpet alas my husband finally gets that carpeting feels sooooo good and toasty on our feet especially in the dead of winter. So we have finally decided to go for it. Its now narrowed down to two wonderful choices (below). I have also included a snippet of the magnificent monogrammed bedding my mom gave us for a housewarming gift, cannot wait to put it on! And then what follows are some beautiful bedroom inspirations for my bedroom. Tonal, soft, tranquil, serene, cloud like are words that  shape my vision. Ready? Let s go!

The carpet...here are the two front runners and a snippet of the gorgeous gray blue monogrammed bedding (on ivory).......

This is with the blue background.....

And this one with the ivory background.....

So its between the two with the blues..........would love to know your pick!

Have had these lamps in my vision for ages............and they will become mine!!!!!!

A touch of blue and white in a bedroom...heck yes!

And here are some images that have been in my dream bedroom file for a while for one reason or another.....
These are "my colors" love the monogram, elegant retrained canopy, the overall feeling is just right!

Love the tonal feel, so soothing and of course LOVE the monogram! Check out the beautiful shirring detail on the top, Phoebe Howard
Not my colors but do love this bed canopy, not too "frou frou" so my husband can still feel like a man in his own bedroom....lol
Love the idea of two chairs and an ottoman in front of the fireplace....sooo cozy! Brunschwig and Fils

Love the softest hint of color here and the creamy white, has such an ethereal effect! Belclaire House
This room looks so inviting, love the plumpness of the bedding, the fireplace and the pretty chair and ottoman, and is that a blue and white vase I spy! Jean Randazzo
Is this not saying just jump in now and don't leave!! This could be a hard bed to leave in the morning:)
Do love a bench and the soft draping, beautiful warm colors make this so inviting and elegant, Eubanks
I would feel like a princess! P.Howard
Love the softness, all the light and airiness......BHG
Talk about elegance meets cozy....I could sit there and read for hours and hours!
This is the very picture of soft, serene and spectacular, love the scalloped detail on the window treatment

Of course love the monogram and interesting headboard, Good Life of Design

A classic, soft and feminine, beautiful bench, love the carpet, Cathy Kincaid

One of my faves, love the bed the scale, colors and window treatment, Traditional Home

A beautiful room. Period. Kelly Proxmire

Soft and elegant, love the pale blues, the drapes and how inviting this feels. Kelly Proxmire

Do you see a common theme? Light? Check. Pale blue? Check. Soft and serene? Check. Billowy light flowy fabrics? Check. Mushy gushy bedding that you can literally sink into? Check check!
Gorgeous soft lighting? Check. Though these are each different, they all have a certain dreamlike/cocoon- ish quality to them. That is very important to how I want my bedroom to feel. I am getting excited about getting this off the ground, now that some of the elements are coming into place. Once I decide on the carpet, (want to order it by this weekend).....I will be well on my way! Here's a little mood board I made to give the overall vibe of the room still a work in progress you gives you an idea.........so tell me whats important to you in a master bedroom?

Thanks for stopping by! More to come on this subject. Much more:) Have a wonderful Friday.

  1. Tina, thank you for the
    shout out for my sweet
    little cousin! I know that
    angels like you will help
    to spread the word and
    that Carrie will make Soup's
    wish come true : )

    I smiled at your description
    of the dream bedroom as
a "cloud." When we got a
new bed and mattress a few
years ago, that is what my
hubby and I dubbed it ~
    "The Cloud." Last summer
    we had the vaulted ceiling
painted blue : ) We need
    some updates to continue
    the theme, so your files
    were inspiring ~ thank you!

    PS: Did you receive my
    e-mail about the bed crown?

Like me, you are moving from one level to another, gathering new ideas, making new and bigger connections....you are doing so well my dear! One day, ONE DAY I will get some of those monogrammed napkins!!!

  4. The finished result is going to be stunning no doubt! Love the chandelier on the inspiration board and Phoebe Howard has some amazing bedroom inspiration. Can't wait to watch it develop. I have a feeling that if Carrie Underwood sees the video that she is the type of person who would make a special visit. I hope it happens!!! xo

  5. YESSSS! Love your bedroom ideas! I don't think you can go wrong with either carpet, but I'm drawn to the blue on white. Prayers for Soup!

  6. Oh my.... I think I might go with the neutral back ground. I say this because I didn't do that. My bedroom rug has the blue background and if I don't truly match the tone of the blue, items fight one another. Just a thought.

  7. I had to chuckle when I read this because every one of those bedrooms is in my inspiration file, esp. the Phoebe Howard one. It's perfection!

  8. All gorgeous bedroom inspirations, Tina. I love the monogrammed bedding, of course. I would go with the neutral background carpet...allows more flexibility for changes in bedding. I hope only the best for Soup.

  9. Love that blue carpet with the floral border! I had chosen that same carpet in a neutral for my family room, but ultimately decided that the diamonds were too small, making the carpet a bit busy for the room. Nevertheless, it is gorgeous! As is everything else! Your bedroom will be magnificent!

  10. My bedroom is the long neglected ugly duckling at my house too. My only New Years resolution was to change that this year! Love both of those carpet choices, but I think I lean to the lighter one once I see your inspiration pictures. Prayers and good thoughts for Soup...I know Carrie Underwood will make her dream come true!

  11. Tina I am no decorator but your room is going to be so beautiful. I loved the board you created showing how it will all come together, wish you could come do mine!
I love the cream colored background vs the blue because its less limiting. I hope you will show us the finished product. We did our bedroom over last year with a local talented designer, in creams and tan and its really beautiful, very serene and the feeling that you described "cloudlike".
Thanks for a great post and allowing us to get behind the creative process!

So sweet about Soup and her wish, I hope Carrie will see the video and visit her.

  12. Tina...I just painted my bedroom a silver gray blue. When I walk into that room I immediately feel relaxed. I would go with the carpet that has the cream in the back ground with less blue. I love everything your doing....Remember, your lamps need to be small enough to reach when your laying down to turn off and on....which I'm sure you already know......Also, thanks for sharing the story about Soup.......what an amazing little girl!

  13. It's no surprise that Phoebe Howard is my favorite and every bedroom she does is perfection!! I love your mood board and am so drawn to the carpet with the blue background. I just love the texture of the white on it. The monogrammed bedding is gorgeous - loved getting a sneak peek. Hope you have a wonderful weekend ~

  14. That video absolutely made my morning, I'm so glad you posted it! It would be fabulous if Carrie Underwood's folks ensure she sees it, you know she would make it happen. The bedroom carpet options are beautiful, each and every one had appeal for me, what a tough choice!

Sending you a smile for the weekend,
    tp

  15. LOVE the mood board and all your inspirations. Your room is going to be spectacular. It is traditional but still really fresh and soft looking.

That video was so sweet. I really hope she gets her wish, thank you for sharing it.

  16. Tina, You and I are very in sinc when it comes to our bedroom colors. I have a soft blue, cream and white room too!! However it is much more casual in feel than your gorgeous room. I like the off white background with the touch of blue, I think it will keep the room soft and warm, The blue background looks a bit contrived to me, IMHO. I think the off-white background will have more longevity.
It is all so gorgeous and elegant!!

  18. Lots of great bedroom ideas here. Didnt know about Kelly Proxmire. Now I can match her up with a design we have loved for a while. Love both of the designs that you show. Too bad there is only one master bedroom in a house. I could go for so many of these! -Tonya

  19. The neutral background is a better choice - both would be great, but the ivory color allows you to use more of the lovely blues all around the room!

  20. I'd go with the ivory in the background;) LOVE the monogrammed bedding!! Can't wait to see when it's done Tina.

Have a fun weekend! My company was here until the 2nd and then I had to work yesterday. I'm off today and my to-do list is a mile long. It's great to be back on to our regular schedule!!

  22. Since I'm a blue girl like you, my choice is definitely the blue background rug--it looks much more cozy and I know everything you love will always go with it!! Love all these bedrooms & redoing mine is on the list for this year.

Loved watching Soup's video. Her spirit is magical & I think Miss Carrie's heart will melt when she hear's Soup's request & will make plans to visit her.

  24. Hi Tina!! I wish I knew someone who knows someone who could make Soup's wish come true. In the meantime, I am sharing the video on my facebook page.

Your bedroom inspirations are gorgeous - so serene. I love the carpet choices, although, we have a very pricey wool wilton carpet in our bedroom and it has not held up to all the traffic over the years. I probably would go for something more practical next time.

Have a wonderful weekend - I am looking forward to some rest and a couple of good movies!

  25. Thank you so much Tina, for the inspiration. The Mister and I are going to have our Master bedroom and master bath remodelled. Helllooo Divorce!! I think I am in the minority but I love the carpeting with the blue background. Can't wait to see your progress! Have a great weekend!

  26. Those bedrooms are all so heavenly. I love the soft little oil paintings in the first one, and that yummy tufted headboard and the blue lamp shades in the eleventh photo, also the chairs and ottoman by the fireplace, how great is that!? Your lamps are such a wonderful shade of blue too, and good luck choosing from those beautiful carpets!

  27. Tina, I love all your bedroom choices and even though I am not a blue person (I prefer the Tuscan earth tones), I love the pieces you have chosen. I think I have the same chairs for my bedroom and the ottoman. I wish I had a fireplace! And like you stated, I have to have a fluffy, comfy, big bed to flop in. Can't have too many pillows either, except when you have to make the bed! Ha! I can't wait to see your finished bedroom.

And, I am hopping over to see Suzanne's entire post. I adore her and so sorry to hear her niece is ill.

WIshing you a wonderful weekend, post holiday....hopefully relaxing!!

  29. Hello Tina, happy weekend!

You are correct there are so many wonderful aspects to blogging and Suzanne at Privet and Holly is one of them, she is such a talented writer and a kind friend! I too saw the post on Soup and loved it! I hope that someone who knows someone can help this adorable little girl live her dream. I posted in on facebook and had many people pass it along but your readership is so much bigger and I hope that it helps the video go viral!

ALL of the images including your mood board are beautiful! I cannot wait to follow along on this beautiful project.

I hope that your husband is feeling better! Have a fabulous weekend, Elizabeth

  31. Lots of beautiful bedrooms to drool over~how to pick? I know you will find the perfect blend for you and the hubster. Have you seen my friend and designer Betsy Speert's bedroom on her blog? Its done with upholstered walls and bedding in a blue and white Brunchwig and Fils fabric complete with a partial canopied bed. I even think she has monograms on her pillows! I have seen it in person and it is quite lovely!

  36. Gorgeous choices all the way around! I've had this same carpet….but in the neutral for 14 years and have NEVER tired of it! I love it in the blue as well! You will not go wrong with any of the choices! Actually, I have to separate areas in my bedroom ( hardwoods with bound rugs out of this carpet) In one area I have the lattice background and the other is the trellis background..of course, both in the same colors but it breaks up the two areas of the bedroom! Can't wait to see the results! Whatever you choose will be incredible!

  43. Hi Tina...personally I would go with the tan instead of the blue. I too LOVE my blue & white and I have decorated much of my house with this color scheme. It is almost too much..blue... in the same space. I would go with cream or tan carpet with a nubby appearance. I think it adds more interest.
After giving my opinion...I must note that you have elegant taste..and I'm sure whatever you choose will be lovely!

  48. The Brunschwig bedroom reminds me of our bedroom in our last home - seating around the fireplace... And I had carpet with the white background and the pale blue squares. It was my dream! But the dream was soon marred by two beagles and a labrador and a cat and young children. Dogs and children throw up when they are sick and sometimes angry male beagles do even worse when they want to teach you a lesson for staying out too long. While I loved the carpet, the white background just wasnt practical for an active household.
I hope SOup gets her wish!

  49. your mood board is wonderful! Have you thought about adding a mirrored chest to the mix??? I love the soothing palette mixed with aged mirror - maybe nightstands?? Just a thought! But I know it will be a dreamy place when you are finished. Can't wait to see the final room.
